The White Lion Hotel, Seaford

Initially looks like a plain seaside hotel (which it is, although set back by a few roads and the railway from the beach), but the traditional bar is open to all and very much a local pub. A further seating / dining area can be found in a conservatory to the left, and a pool / darts room to the right in the main building. With three of the four handpumps in use and pouring the local Harvey's beers, I found the ubiquitous Sussex, Old (£4.80) and Armada available.

The White Lion Hotel is a good sized pub with some comfortable seating in the bar area where there is also a conservatory to the left that leads to a paved beer garden. To the right of the pub is the public bar where there is a pool table, dartboard, jukebox, quiz machine and two plasma screens for showing Sky Sports. I counted four hand pumps on the bar, one of which was unused but the others were drawing Harveys Best and Old Ale alongside Pride. There is also a standard draught range and the Guinness was well served. Food is served, but most of the mains on the chalk boards were rubbed off. The ones that were left came in around the £8 mark, but I didn’t eat or see anyone else doing so when I visited late on Monday afternoon. There are provisions for smokers in the form of a large heated smoking shelter that was almost as busy as the pub. Due to the timing it was quiet during my visit so hard to get an idea of the atmosphere when busy, but the people that I did bump into didn’t seem that friendly, maybe my Reebok Classics are the wrong shade of white. That said, the service was nice enough, but I still do not plan to revisit.
