The Three Oaks, Hastings

My visit to the Three Oaks was on a recent Friday afternoon when inclement weather had me briskly walking from the nearby Railway Station. As I approached the pub I could see that it was encircled by patio seating behind a waist high wall. To the right of the entrance on a small grass covered area sit some picnic tables and a children’s doll house that indicated that little people are welcomed. A wooden smoking shelter and wheelbarrows full of chopped logs added to the rustic charm of this village pub. After noting that food is available daily from midday until 21:00 (two for one on Mondays) and that a weekly quiz is held from 20:00 on Wednesdays I decided to shelter from the rain inside the pub. There were a handful of locals present in the small front bar area that was decorated with brasses and other knick-knacks that any self-respecting village local would display. Four hand pumps lined the bar with clips advertising Greene King’s London Glory, Harvey’s best, an offering from Hogs Back Brewery and Sharp’s Cornish Coaster. A range of generic keg products were also available. A double sided chimney breast with log burner split the aforementioned front bar area from a small seating area to the right where some old tills sit on the floor. Access to the rear of the pub is gained up the right hand side of the bar where there are a couple of sofas and a television that is located at waist height for those lounging in the sofas. At the back of the pub is a rear bar and seating area that is decorated much the same as the front with the likes of tankards and bed pans. The toilets are located to the right of the pub where there is also a games room that houses a pool table and dartboard. The décor in here has a motorcycle theme and there is even a small motorbike in attendance. I didn’t see any sports advertised and there was no background music playing. I found the service to be polite and the locals were all harmless enough. I did not eat, but my work colleagues have championed the quality of food that they have had on previous visits. For those not willing to chance the bihourly train services there is a car park at the rear of the pub. I liked this pub and would love to revisit.
