Yates, Hastings

Standard chain outlet in quite an imposing but rather rundown-looking building. Anonymous semi-modern furniture and limited decoration in a large bar with limited subdivision. Somewhat surprisingly, London Pride, Hobgoblin Gold, Proper Job and the more local Harvey's (£3.60) available from four of the five handpumps, but that's probably too many cask ales if the quality of my beer is anything to go by.

A pretty typical Yates, mainly aimed at the students from the nearby uni, with a standard mix of bare brick and gloomy painted walls, livened up by the occasional artwork. A mixture of high and low tables, with a few TV screens around and a pool table to the rear. Outdoors is limietd to a few tables on the pavement. Handpumps were disappointingly offering Doom Bar and IPA, with Youngs Special off, and a Lilley fruit cider.
