Sussex Yeoman, Brighton

A bit more Bistro than pub but not a bad place. We had a quick drink of Hardy & Hanson's before moving on.

A Greene King pub, but aside from the signage, you'd not guess it as such as there's no GK beer. Thankfully. Situated in an attractive and somewhat precipitous street, made all the harder to master after a day spent researching the city's ostleries. This is a small food-led pub, patronised by well-off Brighton sophistos - quite a change from most of the other city pubs. The interior is simple, with an abundance of grey paint above a bare boarded floor, supporting rustic furniture. There was a cheery atmosphere in here with friendly bar staff. However, there was only the one ale: Hardy & Hanson's Kimberley at a pricey £2.20 a half and dull. This is a decent pub but would be greatly improved with a selection of ales and better ones to boot. Worth a visit, but I found that The Battle of Trafalgar, directly opposite hits the spot just that bit harder.
