The poster shown in the Hay Stook (Wetherspoons) pub is of George Orwell, who wrote 1984. He spent time in Hairmyres Hospital, East Kilbride between 1947-48 and died not long after. That’s the connection of the poster in the pub.

Modern bar opposite the bus station with large windows facing onto it. One of the few real ale outlets in East Kilbride. Unremarkable interior, quickly downed a pint of landlord during a fleeting visit changing buses. It was in decent condition. Othe... [more>]
