A bit further down High St was this capital L shaped Spoons. A bit Tardis like this one, was expecting to be greeted by an interior that was one of the smallest Spoons I have ever visited but the vertical bit of the L goes on seemingly forever. This had more punters in on my visit at 7.45pm than all the previous venues visited in Penge tonight by several multiples. Thought this was a really pleasant Spoons - OK not much inventive on the beer front, JDW stalwarts plus a guest from Brains (OK just the SA) plus a Porter called Black Beauty and a beer called Pacific Islander that the clip described as a fruity IPA! Opted for the Sambrook’s Junction. Spotted that Tim is selling a 175ml glass of a Chilean Merlot for £2.75 - anyone brave enough to try that? After the head f**k that was the music in the last venue, I really enjoyed the music free nature of this venue, albeit it was at the expense of some rather fruity language describing the current state of British politics - all par for the course for a Spoons in South London (sorry anywhere).

Wasn't expecting to find this bar listed on the site, but after another extended session in the Hope at Carshalton, we headed to Gander Green Lane to watch an under-21 football game in the rain.

The bar is situated underneath the main stand. There appears to be access to it on non-matchdays from the car park to the side of the stand. However, having payed to enter the ground, we accessed it from inside.

A couple of handpulls were present, clipped with London Pride & Tribute.

The bar itself is a small, single room affair with a kitchen in one corner. There are plenty of Sutton United photos and memorabilia dotted around the walls. Similar to a theatre's half-time interval, a bell rings when each half is about to kick off. Staff seemed a friendly bunch, but I wouldn't pay a special visit here unless I was here for another match.

April 2024. Veliko Tarnovo. For anyone still reading this Bulgarian blogging and thinking “Make it stop and give us English beer“, I reckon 4 posts to go and then a return to a treat in Sheffield, where the favoured beverage is this; Mrs RM had booked a 12:15 bus for ....
