Known for a while as The Shire Horse, it reverted back to its original name earlier this year. It is a detached, thatched cottage with two bars. Outside there is a reasonable carpark and a pleasant garden terrace, with a brick-built well supplemented by a higher level garden at the rear. Both bars are carpeted and have oak beams on display. The décor is lived in, a bit dreary, but it is functional and adds character. There is a disused dartboard, tv screens and tables laid for diners. The food looked good and was reasonably priced, but we didn't eat. There is a strong local cadre, the pub is family friendly, and the staff were cheerful and welcoming. There were four ales on. I tried the Wychwood Piledriver, but it was off. It was replaced by an excellent pint of Boondoggle with no fuss. It's a pleasant village, worth coming out here for a decent pint in relaxing surroundings.
