Hidden away down a side alley. This is a simple small bar, with plush carpet (you could actually feel it give underneath your feet), jukey and a pool table. Two pumps; just Tribute (OK) on plus four boxed ciders. Some of the clientèle were a bit unusual, from the dumpy opinionated pink-haired woman at one end of the bar to the slack-jawed local playing pool. Not one I’d be heading back to.

I thought that Ryan’s Bar was closed when I swung by early on a recent midweek evening as the lights were out the opening times given in the window were from 20:00 until late. It was just by chance that I walked down the narrow alleyway to the left of the building and found the actual bar entrance and some signs of life. I later learned that this is the proper bar and the street level part is for live music/entertainment.
This isn’t the biggest bar, but the management have managed to squeeze in a pool table and a dartboard. There is also a plasma screen but I didn’t record seeing any Sky Sports advertisements. There was some rock music playing at quite a high volume off the jukebox.
The bar supports two hand pumps but one of these was unused leaving Otter Ale as the lone cask option. There is a standard draught selection and cheap pub grub is served from opening at 10:00.

I thought it a little gloomy in here and would walk past if I found myself in the area again.
