Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Picture Playhouse (JD Wetherspoon)

Seemingly a combination of the expected former cinema and part of the adjacent indoor market, leaving a frontage in two very different styles, and the slightly split-level interior is also in several parts. The main seating / dining areas are in the stalls and on the stage, with the bar in a separate rectangular room off to the side, and a mezzanine and roof terrace have also been added at some stage. Pretty good selection of nine cask ales from the two banks of six handpumps, with two milds - Rudgate Ruby and Mikado from Pheasantry (£2.79) - Milestone Hammerhead stout, Vale Gravitas, Maximus from Maxim and Dark Island from Orkney in addition to the usual suspects of Ruddles, Doom Bar and Abbot.

The bar of the picture playhouse runs down the right-hand wall and faces a sea of high tables with stools. I counted twelve hand pumps in amongst a range of standard keg products. The sunken left-hand side of the pub houses rows of seating and a fireplace. Most tables were being used by diners during my recent Friday afternoon visit. At the rear of the pub are a lift and a staircase that lead up to a roof terrace that is adjacent to the railway line. The toilets are a bit of a trek from the bar, but there is a disabled toilet at bar level. I found this to be a decent enough pub that is worth a visit if in the area.

This is the newest JDW in Sussex having opened last summer. It's a conversion of two adjacent buildings to form a roughly square room with the bar over to the right. This room is split into several different areas some of which are on different levels. At the rear is an upper area that allows you to watch the trains go by if Southern Railway are actually running any. Being a new Spoons that has had shed loads of money thrown at it the fixtures and fittings are better than average. Sadly the tables and chairs have been crammed in too close so that at times even the staff have trouble negotiating a path through them.
There seems to be an upstairs area plus a roof garden neither of which I investigated. There is a lift but it was either in constant use of not working.
It was busy with people having breakfasts on my Saturday morning visit.
Although there are twelve hand pumps the beer choice was poor due to the JDW Trio Of Doom being doubled and the fact that any Locale beers had been squeezed out by the annual parade of the sweet and / or spicy dross that makes up their Xmas guest list. There were four of these with one available soon, GK Rocking Rudolph, Caledonian Bitter Winter, Naylors Santa's Dark Side and Stonehenge Rudolph. On the face of it there was one Locale beer on G2 Southern Cross but when I asked for it as a second pint I was told "it had just gone off". Yeah, I'd heard that one before earlier in the week. It's obviously become the stock excuse for them falsely displaying a beer as being available when it isn't. Given that they take the money before attempting to serve a pint I was tempted to ask for a full refund just to waste their time but went for a second Stonehenge Rudolph (£2.79) instead. Both pints were in good enough condition. The standard guest price of £2.79 is expensive even for a Southern Spoons outside Central London but the food club prices were about average and the traditional breakfast the standard £3.35 which is unusual for a seaside JDW.
The ciders here have been transferred from the platic bag in a box to rigid glass or plastic jars held in the top shelf of one of the fridges. This is a very good idea as you can see what it looks like before buying and if there is still a pint of it left. I went for the Thistly Cross (£2.89) and black Dragon (£2.95).
This is a good new JDW in a town that seems to lack anything worth visiting but could have been much better.
