UPDATE
Still a decent bet with two Rebellion ales and a superb Thornbridge Lord Marples which was a double-whammy having just sampled a fresh-on Jaipur at the nearby Falcon. Fourteen craft kegs still operating - the majority by the usual suspects (most of the guys before). Only bugbear this time was the slightly overloud Radio 1/club-style music - you're either a bar or a club - it would be nice to hear yourself think on a Monday night.

A modern bar betwixt Wycombe's Swan Theatre and the opinion-dividing Falcon / Wetherspoon's with 14 rotating keg taps and 6 cask ales available from such luminaries as Fourpure, Thornbridge, Wild Beer and Wiper & True on my visit and named after a goat that appears in the Norse 'Edda' - an historical point of reference that's perhaps lost in this town. There's some clinicality to the surrounds with the steel-topped island bar counter, stone-tiled floor, drab olive green walls, abundance of tiling (predominantly white to boot) and open kitchen top left with redundant, staring chefs (on an early Friday night to boot), however, the selection of beers over keg and cask, located on three sides on the bar is decent (they offer beer menus, to prevent you having to wander up, down and around) and means this is a decent double-header with the nearby Red Squirrel Brewery Shop.

Wycombe must have wondered what’s hit it recently what with this and the Mad Squirrel place opening, bars that operate a similar business model. Inside is tiles, plasterboard, steel bar top and grey/olive shades, with a plate glass frontage allowing in plenty of light. 20 lines; 18 on with 4 cask available - Rebellion x2, Harbour and Moorhouse Raw (fine). Kudos to the friendly staff member who was helpful with guiding two of my companions to a beer that would suit them. I also liked that there was clear labelling of what was available and in what style and dispense method, via a receipt style roll-call on a small clipboard available on each table. In the battle of the craft beer bars, this one was my preferred venue, as it works on a more intimate scale (and the quality of my cask was better here).
