‘Micropub’ (not really) in a pug-ugly building. Classic long haired heavy metal Black Country owner who good for a bit of banter; when we informed him that we'd done Walsall the night before he challenged us to prove it and after reeling off the list he admitted that yes, we had indeed 'done' Walsall and gave us a tip of the St Marys Club in Cannock. Interior looks like a converted shop or office (ceiling tiles) though there’s a bit of homeliness with carpeting and a huge decal of a stag on the far wall. Loud rock music blaring out at 12.15 on a Saturday, a bit much I thought. GBG listed, plenty of cask on, my Oakham Citra was bostin’ (NBSS 4). Cobs available. Easily Cannock’s best pick.

The Newhall Arms is a micropub in the centre of Cannock. Along with another neighbouring bar, they appear to have taken over an adjacent car park to create a substantial outdoor drinking area and to satisfy current regulations.
It was very busy on our arrival, with a lively atmosphere. Luckily, we had called ahead and the staff had saved us a table. A blackboard was showing the current beer and cider list, although I was also directed towards an online beer list, which was out of date.
Ales were Bristol Beer Factory Independence & White Desert, Salopian Lemon Dream & Wye Valley HPA. Ciders were both from Snail's Bank - Pig Squeal & Strawberry & Lime Cider. It was a shame we couldn't stay longer, but I still had at least one more pub to do.
Best pub of the day during our visit to Staffordshire.
