A typical J. D. Wetherspoon's pub, although since it's housed in a modern building, I suspect it might have been purpose built rather than a conversion. One distinguishing feature is the open fire in the middle of the large square bar room and there are good views from the back window across the Firth of Clyde to the Isle of Cumbrae. The ferry to the island (which hasn't been a paddle steamer for many years) leaves from the nearby pier. A pint of Guinness cost me £3.15 and the usual array of other draught beers is also available.

The Paddle Steamer is one of JDWs more recent offerings having opened in Summer 2016. It's a modern single storey rectangular block on the outside but inside is a bit better. The fixtures and furnishings are more varied than older outlets. The windows at the rear of the building overlook the sea and what looks like a ferry landing point. Over to the right of these windows are some booths that also overlook the sea. As it was a very dull and manky day I ignored all this and sat nearer the doors.
The bar on the left of the room has two sets of six hand pumps which had four available soon, two ciders, Doom Bore & Abbot doubled up and two festival beers. I went for the Adnam's Sloe Porter (£2.49) but more expensive than the centre of Glasgow.
I would think this is a great spot on a fine day but on a dank October Saturday it's just another JDW with a disappointing beer choice.

I googled the address for The Paddle Steamer and it said it was 30 Gallowgate Street, Largs, KA30 8LX, not The Promenade. The Lanes is listed as The Promenade, KA30 8BG.
