Came here once for a group meal around 1995 and remember it being a pleasant, upmarket place which I couldn't afford. However, the bill for all was picked up by our Iranian friend, covered by his mysterious 'sponsor'.

Next door to the famed Bear, along the back alley that is Blue Boar Street which runs parallel to Oxford's High Street, this is a laid-back, funky bar with requisite dimmed lighting, emphasis on cocktails and Dmitri From Paris-style music to accompany. They get a nod for at least offering Hook Norton's Hooky in bottled form, although only a half-nod at the £4.95 tag. Still, it beats a lot of other establishments in regards to us card carriers, and at least I didn't have my 5p change returned to me on a silver tray...
