The first recorded occupant of this property was a James Sawers, in the 1870's. The original house was of Gothic character, and after various owners the house was once owner by a Freda, Viscountess Leverhulme, who was William Hulme Lever's second wife. This was the only connection to the Lever family, who built the village of Port Sunlight for his workers. The house was formerly known as Westwood, changing names to The Grange in the late 1980's. The Grange was a well known and a very popular wedding venue, along with a basement nightclub.
In 2014, Brunning and Price added the property to their portfolio and renamed it The Red Fox.
I found the interior of this large multi-roomed pub to be quite stunning and tastefully finished. The staff were friendly and helpful, and knowledgeable about their cask ales. Nine ales on handpump on our visit, Heavy Industry Electric Mountain, Wily Fox Karma Citra, Facers Sunlight Blonde, Tiny Rebel One Inch Pinch, Phoenix Brunning and Pride, Titanic Stout, Conwy Beachcomber Blonde, Neptune Equinox and Merlin Squiffy Duck. I went for the Conwy, which was excellent and our lunch was even better.

Open. Big country manor by Thornton Hall. Very impressive country pub. 8 real ales on. Very traditional rural beer garden with real country sounds. Birds, bees, farm animals and the farmer blasting rabbits with his shotgun!
