Converted from a nightclub – who know Penrith ever had one of those? – and is quite tidy although a bit sparse in décor, especially at the entrance, it could do with a bit more homeliness. Notably there’s no Spoons carpet on the ground floor that I could see – now many others are bare? Apparently an upstairs garden area but on a frigid late November evening I didn’t go explore. Just two guests on a Monday evening visit, my Great Corby Lakeland Summit was in good form (NBSS 3.5) so the cloth is cut accordingly I suppose. My pizza was notably good. A well-run Spoons, if one their blandest offerings.

This is a pretty smart Spoons, well presented both internally and externally. It is deceptively spacious in side with various seating areas split across different levels. There are a few tables and chairs externally to the front, and a further balcony seating area (not investigated) accessed from the first floor.

My only slight gripe would be that the real ales listed on the app seemed to bear no resemblance to what was actually available on the hand pulls, so I had to go and choose something else after ordering my meal and accompanying pint. Other than the usual Spoons suspects, there were only two guest ales plus a cider to choose from.

Service was friendly, and no issues with the food. A better than average Spoons only let down slightly by the significantly reduced ale selection.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Dog Beck (JD Wetherspoon)

Slightly difficult to find as it is away from the main streets and square, but there is certainly no missing the striking frontage to the old part of the building as you approach. This is where the bar is located, with a larger seating / dining area down a few steps at the back, and above this lies the upper roof garden. Two banks of six handpumps offering a duplicated selection of the usual Ruddles, Doom Bar and Abbot plus the local Corby Blonde from Great Corbyand a pair of Kirkby Lonsdale beers - Singletrack (£1.99) and Monumental.
