We utilised the White Horse for a lunchtime stop on the way down to Somerset and it did not disappoint.
A short distance off the A303, I am guessing it was once a roadside Inn before the upgrading of the A303 to a dual carriageway put it behind a large concrete wall.
I didn’t even realise it has a front door as I entered through the toilet corridor from the car park and spacious garden out the back Clearly a pub of some age with the main bar being long and thin with a low beamed ceiling and plenty of beams of a certain age. We however, sat in what looks like a more recent dining room extension behind the main bar that leads out via large doors to the aforementioned spacious garden.
Three hand pumps on the bar with two in operation, dispensing the same White Horse Ale mentioned by ETA below, (which I went for and it was a fairly standard brown bitter and will have to remain origin unknown) and Flack’s Double Drop on the other.
We were primarily here for Sunday lunch and couldn’t fault the two roasts we had which were decent in both quality and quantity.
If you are travelling down the A303 and require a refreshment stop then you can do a lot worse than the White Horse Inn.

A 15th Century freehouse, thatched, quite literally in the shadow of the A303. They offer B&B and are well known locally for their food, a fairly standard pub menu which is locally sourced and freshly cooked. Entered through a rather scruffy car park, the front door isn't obvious at first as it really is right up against the concrete retaining wall of the A303 flyover. Inside, there are low ceilings with exposed timbers, a carpeted floor and plenty of dining tables. There is a large inglenook with a woodburner. The landlord was constantly fussing around, while the landlady was pleasant and welcoming. Ales on were Pentons The Duke, King John, White Horse (origin unknown) and GK IPA. Worth stopping for lunch on the way past, but we felt the beer quality was a bit lacking.
