Located in a couple of rail arches just south of the Clyde is Sharkeys, which was the closest bar to the Premier Inn I recently stayed at. There are two sides, but the right-hand side was lights out, so I remained in the rectangular left-hand bar. There were a couple of televisions that were off, but BT Sport was advertised. Because no worthwhile sport was being played during my early midweek afternoon visit the jukebox supplied some background music. The bar counter along the right wall faces banquettes up the left and at the rear is a kitchenette used to make burgers, wraps and sandwiches. The quarter pounder was a very reasonable £5.50. The service was very friendly, but only a standard keg range was available meaning this basic pub is not worth walking over the river to visit.

Sharkeys is one of only two pubs left in the Gorbals area of Glasgow, the other being the Brazen Head which is a very easy to find pub, with its bright green and white colours. Sharkeys on the other hand due to major changes in housing and road constructions still has the address of 51 Old Rutherglen Road but put this address in your Sat Nav and you will end up lost. The bar maid informed that even Glasgow taxi drivers find the place difficult to find. The pub is built under a railway and nestles in the railway arches. The place has been here for over 25 years. It is set beside small industrial units, and with a Premier Inn and Citizens Theatre all nearby. The place is long and thin and split in two, only one half in use during the day and with small windows and a low, false ceiling. Tennents beers are on tap. There are meals available with lunchtimes, which can be busy especially on a Friday as the seadogs from the nearby Nautical College, and people from the Sheriff Court frequent the place. There is street parking available. But this is very limited.
