Town centre branch of Wetherspoon's where I decided to call in for a late Saturday morning breakfast.

The layout is similar to so many of the chain's pubs with open-plan seating areas. The usual ales were on - Greene King Abbot, Ruddles Best & Sharp's Doom Bar. 3 guests were Coach House Postlethwaite's & Peerless Langton Spin & Full Whack. Ciders were Weston's Old Rosie & Gwynt y Ddraig Black Dragon.

Clientele were the usual mix of old men, a few shoppers and families. Quite a few others were eating. Some were just drinking.

A fitting name to what was once a thriving watchmakers town. Once through the main doors, you will see a semi circular clock face depicted in the flooring. A large wall mounted pocket watch, displaying a moving mechanism, which was commissioned by Wetherspoons can be found on the left of the entrance. Other various clock themed features included lampshades with dials and glass partition screens depicting watch parts. The bar was situated down the left hand side and had a choice of eight hand pulled ales. I went for the Big Bog Welsh Pale Ale, which was in excellent condition and only £2.05 a pint.

having never been to Prescot before and seeing the number of scallies in the town centre and outside the pub I was a touch apprehensive visiting this Spoons. but other than some abrupt service (efficiency is good but please don't snatch money from my hands) I thought it was well-run with a pleasant enough atmosphere. better than the two in St Helens for example and seemingly popular with everyone in this small town. open kitchen so you can see your meal coming out of the microwave
