You need to have a taste for swanky hotel bars to appreciate places like this. This one is a good example of the genre, a pleasant wood panelled lounge, all deep carpet and soft furnishings, rather spoilt by a glass roofed affair bolted on sometime in the last few years. Watching the comings and goings, and earwigging the well-off visitors and local ladies-of-a-certain-age who come here for a gossip makes for a pleasant half hour. Not cheap of course, around £4 a pint and no real ale.
