The usual industrial interior for a Brewdog pub but I like that.Bit big and cavernous when few customers around.Hard to find a sensible strength beer amongst the guest beers.Had a superb (pastry stout) by Brewdog -confectionist perfectionist that was sweet enough to rot your teeth.

The wheel spins again…and BrewDog are in town, so you’d expect them to finally break the curse of this building being able to host a viable bar business. They’ve done a good job inside if you like the industrial chic thing; grey floor, wood plank and exposed brick walls, central strip seating and caged booths. There’s also an odd tiered wood posing area, which apparently will get used for ‘talks’ but on my visit was populated by the alpha poseurs. So it’s the usual BrewDog setup and pricing at the bar, which will certainly get an audience from the offices in Reading. I stuck to the BrewDog beers and I was pretty underwhelmed by most of them, really. Pretty busy for a Wednesday night a few weeks after opening so the novelty either hadn’t yet worn off or it’s genuinely going to be popular. I guess we’ll see how it looks on a wet Wednesday night in November.

Another year, another name (‘Public Reading’ – eh?). It's now a games-themed cocktail bar and nightspot.

July 2016
Closed, perhaps unsurprisingly.

August 2015
Has now re-opened as Rynd 'bar and kitchen'. Done out like a North American log cabin. Keg, cocktails and small selection of bottles (though the Kernel was £5.50 so gave that a swerve). Two halves of Staro came out as pints and I was relived of £9.80 for the privilege. Never again!

Looks like they've given up on the idea of selling ale on the evidence of my last two forays into the place.

More slow than Stephen Hawking with a flat battery in his chair. Both my ales (Pride and Brakspears) were poor, flat and had a head so big that you could put a Flake in and call it a 99. Barmaid seemed perplexed by request for a top-up. Guess what, sparklers on the pump. *Sigh* Not a place for ale drinking. Still, this is mainly a cocktail bar and the cocktails were made from fresh – commendable, but do you really have to squish raspberries through a little sieve into the glass each time you make one? Couldn't they be squished in bulk at 4pm and kept in a Tupperware box in the fridge? That's why it takes so long to get served…

Finally this fine building has been put to sensible use now as a BrewDog bar. Quite spacious inside, the walls are a mix of exposed and distressed brickwork, and wood cladding, there a couple of of rows of higher than normal tables and chairs, but not so high as to cause vertigo,
some normal height seating, again tables and chairs along with some upholstered bench seating. Lights hang down on cables from the bare rafters in the ceiling. In one corner are a couple of pinball machines but annoyingly turned up at full volume fairground levels. On the beer front there were 19 BrewDog beers on 5 or 6 of the core range the rest were some weird and wonderful concoctions, also there were two guests, Beavertown Gamma Ray and Weihen Stephener Hefeweiss. These places are however not cheap, the two beers I tried, both very good were Jet Black Heart 4.7% at £5.35 a pint and Native Son 8.5% £3.90 for my 1/3rd, cheapest beer on the board was £4.80, dearest a 10.5% stout at £5.55 1/3rd.
Food is available , mostly burgers at around the £10.00 mark. There were a lot of staff on duty, maybe opening week enthusiasm, and seemed to be offering table service, but this was not overbearing or forced upon you.
Of course these bars are not everyones cup of tea, but for me it enhances Readings beer scene further, just bring a full wallet.
