Blackthorn _ left this review about The White Hart

Tucked away down a country lane, but nonetheless only a couple of minutes’ drive from the main A370, this looks surprisingly contemporary from the outside with large italicised writing on the wall conveying the pub's name and plenty of attractive lighting.

Internally though it’s mostly much more traditional and is split in to three rooms. At the very back is a large conservatory extension, and this is clearly more modern with a laminate wood floor. What is now the middle room, but was presumably the rear room originally, has a more modern looking slate style tiled floor but otherwise appears largely original with a few black beams on the ceiling, pale green wood panelling on the lower part of the walls and rough cream plasterwork above. Large stone fireplaces were at either end, although neither were in use on our visit. One contained a wood burning stove so may perhaps be used on occasions, whilst the other contained a PA amplifier and a stuffed badger. A projector was mounted up on the ceiling although there was no sign of a screen, so I assume that it is used infrequently. A stainless steel carvery was off to one side which spoilt the cosy ambience somewhat, and I understand that carveries are offered on a Wednesday and Sunday. A smaller room at the front appeared to be where the locals congregated, and I noticed a real fire blazing away in a small brick fireplace, as well as a table skittles game.

The menu offered a good choice of “pub grub” dishes with options such as scampi & chips, ham & eggs, beef burger, lasagne etc., and these were mostly priced around the £13 mark. I went for the luxury fish pie from the specials board, and this was a massive portion, far too big really, but was tasty enough and had a decent cheesy mash on top as well as garlic bread on the side.

Beers on tap were all from Hall & Woodhouse with their Tanglefoot, Badger and From the Forager. Ciders meanwhile were Thatcher’s Gold & Thatcher’s Haze. Overall, a decent enough pit stop.
