The Belvedere is a fairly unremarkable pub a short walk from Belvedere Station. It has always had a bit of a rough and ready, feel although from my experiences, it does seem to have improved in certain areas over the past year or so.

The carpeted interior is a single room, quite featureless and a bit old fashioned but functional enough. The décor is quite plainwitha few old pictures and posters advertising the forthcoming live music. The furnishings are quite standard with banquette seating in one corner and a couple of tables the other with a poseur table occupying the remaining floorspace. The right hand side of the bar is largely taken up by a pool table and a dart board is situated to the left of the bar. A couple of flat screens adorn the 2 front corners that were intrusively belting out a movie that no-one seemed to be watching. There is a function room (presumably upstairs) and to the side, a beer garden that probably needs a small bit of attention to make it a worthwhile prominent feature.

There are generally 2 ales and usually they are quite mainstream however my latest visit found Marstens Pedigree alongside the more formulaic Youngs Ordinary. The quality is generally very good and the chap behind the bar (I assume the Landlord) was initially a bit hesitant to hand over my pint as he thought it wasn’t up to scratch – it looked and tasted fine to me. Prices are very reasonable (the Pedigree was £3).

The customer base can be a bit f-wordy and I have unfortunately witness the odd spot of bother but, to be honest, it’s not the most up-matrket area and I don’t suppose it has any more trouble than many fo the other local pubs. With the nearby (dreadful) Belvoir now closed and the (not quite as dreadful not not far behind) Halfway House making the other options in the immediate vicinity (and the remaining Belvedere pubs a hefty hike up an energy sapping hill) the Belvedere certainly has its place and I have been in far worse.
