A relatively rare 11am opener on a Saturday. Traditional pub, small beer garden, nooks and crannies inside - including some comfy sofas.

As the first in, i had to suffer the first pull of the day. The McMullens Country Bitter was nowhere near as bright and good as discovered last month in Broxbourne.

A well appointed McMullens tied house,it's a proper boozer popular with the local community. It's a one room affair, but is split into sections with traditional furniture and kept spick and span. The bar runs along part of the left hand side, and has a number of bar stools so you may find some bar blocking. There is a flatscreen nearby with Sky and BT Sport but sensibly it was on mute when no sport was showing on my visit. The right hand section is away from the banter around the bar,and french windows open onto a seating terrace of decent size.By a front window there are many photos of Spurs player going back to their glory ,glory days in the 60's so you know which way the pub will lean on derby days. There is a good darts throw near the shrine.Food includes tapas,£5 basket meals which is a great throw back to times gone past ,together with pub grub staples around £7.65 which all seemed very reasonably priced.
There was McMullens AK and Country Bitter both doubled up,and the condition of my Country was tip top.I can see the attractions of popping in here ,it's the best Macs pub in Waltham Abbey IMHO.

Will Larter left this review about The Crown

The Crown is a good looking pub in a residential side street quite close to the church, the other town centre pubs being in the pedestrianised shopping streets around the market place. As such, it seems to attract a local following, mostly - at the time of our visit - playing darts. The interior is very comfortable and welcoming, with regular tables and chairs in most of the large area in front of the bar, but I spotted a sofa at the far end near a fire place. On the bar were four hand pumps, with McMullens AK doubled up (which seems to be a habit in this brewery's pubs) plus Country Bitter and Shriev'ale. We gave the AK a miss, and were quite happy with the other two beers, which were in good condition and noticeably livelier than the beers we'd had in the Angel prior to coming here. That and the slightly better atmosphere made this the better of the two pubs on the night, but I'd be happy to revisit either if in the area again.
