It feels like some smart alec from the refurb brigade has ‘done a job’ on this one. Some walls are painted in different bold colours, there’s modern distressed wood and a background cacophony of naff chart music to finish off the haphazard feel. The blue and white boat bar front is at least well-done (maybe it was original?). Notably fewer customers than the Pentre and it lacked any real atmosphere. Three ales on; Thwaites Wainwright, Wychwood Hobgoblin and the local Mantle MOHO which was a bit fizzy and not conditioned properly, the same beer across the road in the Pentre was better. Feels like a place that’s trading in the other pub’s shadow and is experiencing an identity crisis as a consequence.

The second of the fine stone pubs servicing the pleasant former seafaring village of Llangrannog. This one however is set back a bit from the beach behind a small pay and display car park. However this car park costs £4 and is impossible to get into in high season. So if visiting by car the recommendation is to park in the free car park at the top of the village and take the 10 minute stroll downhill to the cove.
An attractive (now painted white) stone building from the outside, internally it’s a modern décor with wooden flooring and wooden bench table seating round the windows, but unlike the Pentre Arms on the other side of the cove none in the bar area really give you a good view of the sea. There’s better views from the ones in the upstairs restaurant but we didn’t venture up the stairs so cannot confirm. As well as the upstairs restaurant there is a games room in the building extension to the left of the main bar. Then there is bench seating on the patio area to the front of the pub. Like the Pentre Arms there is a focus on local food especially fish with the catch of the day being caught from their own boat apparently. We had a couple of lunch time Prawn sandwiches which hit the spot for us, as did the beer. Although only two beers available and the guest was Brakespears Oxford Gold the other is always one from the local Mantle brewery in Cardigan and Mantle MoHo was available for our visit.
With two pub, a decent café and a fish and chip shop a visit to the small seafaring village of Llangrannog is highly recommended.
