I’m not sure whether this place is a bar or a restaurant and after asking the apathetic Eastern European barmaid I was even more confused. I asked if they showed Sky Sports and she replied “We show football”. There was football on, but it was Spanish football shown on an Arab channel, so I’m still none the wiser. I asked if the place was Turkish or maybe Moroccan and she replied “It is multicultural”. There was a selection of premium lagers on draught and the ordering of my pint was the last interaction I had with the barmaid as I felt like I was wasting my time.
The venue is split into three rooms with the front and back rooms having a bar, plasma screen and tables to sit at. The central room has some small Mediterranean couches that line a dance floor that has some bongos set up next to it and a DJ booth. The whole venue is decorated in a Mediterranean/Turkish hut style with masks and tribal paraphernalia overwhelming the place. It’s a shame about the silver extractor fan running across the ceiling and the signs on every available wall space reminding patrons that they are on camera.
I spotted some signs up outside, near the limited seating area, advertising belly dancing nights for £5 on the first Thursday of every month and there were also some upcoming Polish parties – Maybe the barmaid was correct when she said multicultural! I have a feeling that this place caters for a lot of private parties and turns into some sort of club in the evenings, but this is just a feeling that I got from the surroundings.
I’d imagine this place being an ok place to go with some friends for a birthday party or some other celebration, but I don’t think that I would go in on the spur of the moment again.
