Quinno _ left this review about West's Bar

A converted church which, as noted elsewhere, looks more like a coffee bar from the exterior advertising. Two ales on my visit Brains Bitter (cheap for Chichester at £2.85pp) and Hobgoblin with Pedigree clip turned. My Hobgoblin was fine. Very genteel clientele, mainly there for the food (dig the large salad bar at the rear) and the extensive selection of the dailies. The interior retains much of the original architecture and the large church windows provided nice levels of light. For those who dislike twigs in pubs, this place was full of them, mounted high up and illuminated by those blue fairy lights are so in vogue at present. The Grand Prix being shown on a big screen to the rear of the island bar, which few people were watching, rather ruined the atmosphere especially when combined with the background muzak. The toilets, whilst not located in a crypt, certainly smelt like they were.

Worth a visit for the novelty value but a lot more could be done here – this should be an essential pub for Chichester.

Old Blue left this review about West's Bar

I nearly missed this pub as it's in an old church opposite the cathedral, and the advertising outside gives more of an impression that it's a coffee shop rather than a pub. Once inside however it feels like, well, a pub in a church, which is exactly what it is. There is a large bar in the middle, with seating areas around the rest of the floor, but the pub conversion has been kept quite minimalistic, and with the feel of the original architecture you can have no doubt that you are actually in a church. Took a while to get used to, but I rather liked it.

I also liked the way they'd done the seating areas, which are slightly divided up so it feels a bit more intimate than one homogenous sprawl would do.

There are three real ales on hand pumps. It is obviously competing on a lot of other levels with the JDW down the road, but I much prefer this place, even if I have less choice of ales and if costs £3.00 for a Hobgoblin.
