I can only agree that this is one of the best village pubs that I have visited for food and good beer. The atmosphere is warm and locals chat freely with you rather than ignoring you as so often happens in country pubs. The steak pie is easily the best I have had in many a year and the Gressingham Duck is to die for. My wife and I looked for pubs around Malton and Pickering and this is the one we returned to night after night...a real gem!

Lovely family run pub. Great meals, with a wide variety of choice and reasonably priced. We have visited quite a few times in the past and have never had any cause to complain, and have left fully fed and watered! All food is homemade and cooked to order, in fact all meals are made by the landlady herself! Not many pubs serve 'proper' chips, possibly the best chips in Yorkshire. I'm not too sure where 'Gavin Jones' visited back in February but it certainly wasn't this pub. I would suggest he go back into training because his years 'in the industry' certainly haven't done him any good and it sounds like his taste buds need re-tuning!

In reply to Gavin Jones' review of the Golden lion pub in Great Barugh, I have never heard such a load of rubbish. I use this pub on a regular basis and only have praise for the food. Everything is homemade. The steak pie is probably the best I have ever had. The steaks are excellent and the homemade chips are to die for!! Gillian makes all the puddings herself and they are beautiful. I can only assume Gavin has some vendetter against the pub, or he has the wrong place. By the way the range and quality of the real ales is good too. John Gillies.
