The Plough is an old 17th Century timber framed Fullers pub situated opposite the church and close to the large village green. It's a pity that no-one has submitted a picture of it yet for this site, but I'm a technophobe and it's probably well beyond my capabilities, so you'll have to make do with this review.

Only a couple of miles from Southall, Norwood Green has something of a semi rural country feel to it.

The Plough is one of Fullers longest held pubs and, notably, it’s a pub that Fullers have retained in a trading area where they have offloaded a number of pubs over the years.

The pub features low ceilings, exposed timber beams and a number of adjoining drinking areas all serviced from a small L shaped bar counter. Notably, what was once a snooker room for the local yoof is now quite an attractive traditionally furnished additional seating area.

Externally, it is pleasing to see that the old building has not been spoilt by the usual corporate branding. The pub sign is a stand alone hanging pub sign and the old style lettering “Fuller & Co “ has been retained. The large sloping tiled roof looks as though it was probably once a thatched roof.

On my recent Bank Holiday Monday visit, skull and crossbones bunting around the bar area initially led me to assume that there was a pirate themed fancy dress party in progress, but it quickly became apparent that a group called The Sex Pirates were performing in the large garden at the back of the pub. Flyers dotted around the pub bore the headline “Never mind the rollocks, here’s the Sex Pirates” and invited us to join in with the “foot stampin’, drinkin’ music”.

It’s clearly a family orientated community pub and the combination of a BBQ and the music had attracted a healthy crowd of appreciative punters.

I’m not a big music fan, so I retreated inside, only to be joined several minutes later by the band, who proceeded to perform indoors as the rain started in earnest.

On the drinks front, the visit was my first sighting of Fullers Tercentenary Ascot Ale, a fine moreish straw coloured ale, but somewhat pricey at £ 3.60p. It’s brewed specially to celebrate the 300th anniversary of Ascot Racecourse.

The area is not a great part of West London for the pub going enthusiast, but this is quite a good one. It’s worth looking out if you’re passing through.

An old pub in a very attractive location opposite a church and very close to Norwood Green.Low ceiling around the bar with exposed timbers and a real fire in the main saloon, there are also a few nooks and crannies.Fullers tie, with four handpumps offering London Pride,Seafarer,Discovery and sadly reversed Bengal Lancer.Ale quality was fine but on our session the Pride ran out, leaving a`choice of 2.The food is available until 9pm and is from a shortish menu but with three specials and the quality was good .Tuesday night features acoustic musicians and quiz on Thursdays creates a good, community atmosphere and there is a very friendly welcome behind the bar.Would definately use The Plough again, this is a surprisingly good pub given the options nearby.
