I visited on a Thursday lunchtime more to look at the architecture , which from the outside is very impressive, than discover real ales. Bombardier and one other beer. Plenty of swan necks and names like Thatcher, Peroni and Stellar. The clientèle were a good deal younger than my 60 plus years but very subdued.I grasped my glass of red wine, a good tasting Shiraz, and found a stool from which to admire the wonderful classical interior complete with memorials ,stained glass windows and cast iron metal work of the gallery.Amazingly I had a pleasant quiet half hour, something The Slug and Lettuce brand name is not usually known for.
This old building is no longer the church it was designed as but thankfully it is still open to the public without it becoming a museum or converted into a Pound Store.
