M&B seem to be de-branding their mediocre Vintage Inns, usually into their externally unbranded Country Pubs and Dining brand. That's doesn't make them any better, though they're usually OK in the summer when you don't have to spend long inside. This one is typical of the genre. Most of the usable seating is given over to dining, please wait to be seated for your reheated food service meal. If you just want a drink you may be stuck with high tables or low sofas, tough if you are disabled. There are tiled floors, fake beams and split logs in piles to feed the invisible open fires. I will concede it's smart and tidy enough, if you think vomit grey paint is smart, but still just wrong.

On a nice afternoon you can sit outside by the canal, and enjoy a decent pint of Purity UB or Gold, or Doombore if you must.

But there are a couple class-leading pubs a few miles away. What are you doing here?

An upmarket offering from Vintage Inns so you know what you're likely to find.
The exterior is traditional but has been added to and the interior has been completely refurbished but, as with most Vintage Inns, it provides a comfortable place for a beer or some food.
Again, as with many of the type, the bar area is distinct from the restaurant with plenty of room to settle and enjoy a drink without feeling pressured into eating and the staff are friendly and welcoming.
The restaurant at the rear backs onto a terrace, garden and the canal making this a very pleasant spot in the summer.
Food was at the upper end of the Vintage range in both price and quality but I enjoyed it felt that the quality was worth the price.
Beers on were Purity UBU, Pedigree and Doom Bar with the first two being in good condition.
I'd happily return for food and beer ideally on a sunny day by the canal.

Reopened quite recently, this is an unbranded Vintage Inn trying very hard to be an upmarket pub for both food and accomodation. After many different names over the years,it is pleasing that it has reverted to The Kings Arms, which is the name of the nearby canal bridge over The Grand Union Canal.
The interior is smart and modern but still has a lot of exposed timbers and has a distinct drinking area around the wood faced bar. There are comfy chairs,Chesterfields and a mix of high tables and quite a few folk just come here to drink. To the side of the bar is the entrance to the restaurant with table service from a more pricey than normal menu but including some good fish dishes, game and accompanyments and sauces that require a proper chef to be at work.My only complaint about my venison is that it was served on a piece of slate with one side curved upwards, rather too pretentious. The restaurant has some very clever and imaginative wall decorations.
The welcome from behind the bar was friendly and both my Purity UBU and Pedigree were well kept and justified the cask marque.Only the ubiquitous Doom Bar remained untested .Another fly in the ointment was the muzak with a selection of supposedly cool modern music, but resembling a dirge and not uplifting in any way .The volume inside was just acceptable but to have the speakers in the beer garden at full volume destroyed what would otherwise would be an idyllic canalside location for a drink or al fresco meal.
It's upmarket in the same way as the nearby BlackBoy is distinctly down market, and it may not appeal to pub traditionalists but overall I had a good evening here supping the ale and eating the well prepared food.Worth a visit IMHO.
