The White House Inn is a seven room hotel located in the Brecon Beacons National Park, just outside Sennybridge. A large detached building in its own grounds with large car park to front, it is obviously painted white to match the name.
The bar /restaurant is open to the public and we utilised it for an evening meal whilst staying nearby and touring the Beacons.
You enter from the front into a very characterful spacious bar / lounge area but with a very ‘old school’ décor as far as hotels go nowadays. Lots of dark wood beams, a couple of exposed brick sections ,thick red pattered Axminster carpet throughout, animal heads on the wall including the usual stag antlers and lots of bric a brac and dust catchers. Lots of pictures on the wall including a personalised section of what I assumed to be the owners children with graduation photo’s and Welsh rugby kit photo’s (assume one of them has made the grade for Wales). And then there is a large conservatory dining room in a bit more modern style on the side which I guess is used for hotel guests and functions such as weddings.
So you get the family run feel here rather than corporate hotel blandness, although some may consider it to be dated.
There were a couple of local Welsh Ales on the central serving area, from Tomos Watkins if I remember correctly, and mine was a decent pint to go with the meals, which I would describe as honest British cooking, well-presented and fairly tasty, but not winning any Egon Ronay awards any time soon.
So not a pub as such and I would only recommend coming here for the food. And to be honest for that you are better off checking the most recent Trip Advisor reviews..
