Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Yates's

Large rectangular bar housed in the imposing (if rather austere) former main post office building but made-over at some stage with anonymous semi-modern furniture and decor that could really be anywhere. The only features to note are eight large circular columns supporting the ceiling and some finickety cast-iron railings on the stairs up to the Loft Bar and down to the toilets. Also has a rear patio beer garden. Two handpumps on the counter, offering Doom Bar and Pride (£2.90). To be fair, it was actually a rather better place for a quick stop than I was expecting.

A pretty thorough refurb, now more bar-like than clubbing barn. Tiled flooring, tiled bar back. Pigeon hole shelving at one end with various gubbins. ‘All Day Long’ inscribed mirror above the bar and staff tees bearing the same moniker presumably pointing at a re-repositioning of the brand. Two ales, Doom Bar and an utterly pedestrian Pride, though at £ 1.25 a half I didn’t feel completely fed-up. A fairly wide (if mainstream) bottled selection in fridge from the likes of Samuel Adams, Meantime, Goose Island. It’s better than it was but I’d see no reason to go here over the Spoons opposite for a fix of cheap grog.

Popped in again the other day and found their two ales (Pride and a specially-brewed 'Yates Bitter') were in decent condition and stupidly cheap - on a par with the Wetherspoons over the road. It's a Yates' of course, so whether you choose to venture in after 8pm on a Friday or Saturday night is entirely up to you...it's on Friar St, which is the late-night binge drinking street in town. It wouldn't be my first choice.

Now sells London Pride, so I ventured in. Pint was OK actually. A big barn of a place (the old post office, apparently) it's usually deserted during the week and heaving at weekends, but then again so are all the townie chain bars. Disabled-friendly, even when busy - my wheelchaired friend was given VIP treatment by the bouncers so a bonus point there.

Very average and plain Yates. I did eat here once and did not get food poisoning so thats a bonus. The best beer on offer was John Smiths. That may tell you something.
