A totally charming 16th century small country inn, with low ceilings, many beams and fine wood panelling throughout. There are two rooms for drinkers, one opening from the High Street ,the other from the carpark while a seperate restaurant is also located at the rear of the building.A central corridor connects the various rooms.A bar menu operated in the two bars, each with their own servery ,from a short menu offering much the same food as the Good Food Guide restaurant, but just with less exotic options .Real fires in all rooms add to the character and no muzak, gaming machines or flatscreens spoil the authentic interior.
At the bar 4 handpumps offer Harvey's Sussex Best as a regular (top drawer),with guests on my visit Harvey's Old Ale,Beachy Head Lighthouse and Gun Brewery Pale (decent);lots of Locale.
It's a refined place and many visitors will be here to eat the fine food, but you will get an equally friendly welcome if you just want a pint.Old school and charming, there are a number of letting rooms and a magnificent beer garden .
Well worth a visit,be prepared to pay up for some fine food if that is what you are looking for.

Rich Gibbs left this review about The Griffin Inn

An impressive inn located in the quaint village of Fletching, south-west of the Ashdown Forest, Sussex. Good food and ales are a tad pricey but that doesn't deter the many customers who visit this place, particularly in the summer when the spacious and attractive garden provides wonderful views across to the South Downs. I've used the 'four-poster' accomodation on a couple of occasions which is in keeping with the ambience of this old hostelry. One word of warning - parking is at a premium both on site and in the village on busy weekends!
