Tried again three weeks on from the last update to find it open this time. It's had quite a smart modern makeover but gone are any vestiges of a traditional pub. Now knocked through and opened out, there are still three distinct but interjoined areas, a smart shiney wooden floor with pale grey coloured walls upon which hang old black and White photos of the area from yesteryear, mixed seating, high and low including sofas. The menu looked decent, prices typicaly between £8.00 - £20.00. On the curved central bar there are three hand pumps, todays offerings were London Pride (£1.90 for a 1/2), Hobgoblin and Old Golden Hen, a range of usual keg stuff along with the keg version of Adnams Mosaic.
Its not a bad example of the type of pub it now is, but not one I would head to for a few beers. 6/10.

Update 10/12/16 now reopened under new management as The Tweseldown Pub & Kitchen, called by today to give it a checkover but found the doors locked at 11:40 on Saturday morning despite their new website giving opening hours as 11:00. Not a good start for the new management.
Rating of 6 valid only for the 2015 review.

March 2015 as The Twesledown
Popped my head in here for the first time in a good few years and found not a lot had changed, Its certainly a pub of two halves. The public bar is described below by Quinno as characterful,in a way I agree although in a very basic way,a wooden boarded floor, chestnut stained wood paneling on much of the walls as well as some cream coloured plaster work, the colour of the ceiling I could kindly call dark Butterscotch although I think heavy nicotine describes it better, all this clashes with the dark Green toilet doors and even more so with the Red baize of the pool table, this aside its very much a traditional public bar complete with a decent layer of dust on the keg T bars and Handpull plinths. The separate saloon bar is a much more plush and cosy place, exactly as Quinno describes it.
Ales on today were Doombar, Pride, Triple fff Altons Pride and Backyard Brewhouse Robs Revenge. My Altons Pride was drinkable but a little flat. An OK place but I personally wouldn't go out of my way.

A lot bigger inside than the exterior suggests. A characterful public bar to the left (darts and pool), a large comfy lounge to the right with a dining room beyond the toilet lobby. Decorated with a country inn ambience, many knik-knaks on display including ceramic and pewter tankards, dried hops, riding boots, brasses and other equine ephemera hung from the ceiling and walls. Internal fauna and log range fireplace must make for a good all-round seasonal experience. Well-maintained grass side garden looks good for sunny days. Selection of daily papers available. Four ales: Altons Pride, Hoptimum Prime, Pride, Courage Best. No issues with either the Altons or Hoptmum. Obviously caters to a younger crowd at times as there were a number of daftly-named shooters advertised at the bar. Busy at Friday lunchtime, a good mix of punters. Plenty to like here and I’d like to do this one again. Easy to reach via the 72 Reading-Aldershot bus, stop is two minutes walk up the road.

The Tweseldown has a warm welcoming atmosphere, with 2 log fires, and a great selection of wines, lagers and real ales. The delicious menu is homemade with a specials board changing regularly. Bookings can be made for up to 60 people, and The Tweseldown can also cater for functions such as wakes and birthday meals.
