It's a few years since I've been inside the Devonshire - also known as the Drovers Arms in Darrowby, in the TV series All Creatures Great and Small. It being only just gone 11am I wasn't going to be tempted by the range of five Timothy Taylor beers arrayed on the bar, and asked instead for an Americano. This is a multi-roomed pub, with diners to the left, drinkers near the bar, and a room full of ACGS memorabilia in a room to the right. I wasn't going to be tempted by that either.

A timothy taylor hotel. What's not to like!

Five varieties on including the lesser spotted blonde, Ramtam and Golden Best.

Nice rooms, though pricey and top breakfast.

General Staal left this review about The Devonshire Hotel

Good, friendly pub. Georgian with Victorian additions. There are two rooms which have been knocked into on making a J shape. The bar runs to the right with a small annex up some steps to the right of the front of the bar and the 'restaurant' running off to the left.

It is done out in a 'traditional' country style.

Mrs Staal and I ate in here a couple of times and the food was excellent. We also did the Wednesday quiz, which was great fun.

The real ales on were, Tetley Cask, Moorhouse's Bitter, 'Grassington Ale', Moorhouse's Pride of Pendle and Black Sheep Bitter. I tried them all and they were all very good, but the Pride of Pendle was my favourite.

As a hotel bar, this was very pubby. It was extremely friendly and the service was excellent.

I enjoyed my visits here and I would highly recommend it.
