Well described by OB below, though I would quibble that this pub is not on top of any hill, and having cycled the length of Coverdale I can confirm that it is a long way to Wharfedale from here! Where we are in agreement, though, is on the quality of the beer. We had timed our cycle ride to be sure of being here during the fairly limited lunchtime opening (12 to 2), and there were a few people finishing their food as we arrived. We were only after liquid refreshment, but what we had hit the spot. Very pleased that the community has saved this one from closure.

Saved from closure by the locals under the umbrella of the Coverdale Community Pub group, it's a fairly isolated hilltop place above Wensleydale on one side and Coverdale on the other, reached by narrow roads. Obviously stone built, inside are two rooms and a dining room each in simple dales decor. The bar in the middle room has a flag floor, the side room is in a more homely front room style decorated with old photos and documents of interest. The dining room is in muted pastel shades with tasteful watercolours. The counter has four pulls plus a T Bar, beers from Black Sheep, the ubiquitous John Smiths, Rudgate and on this occasion Grundys from Derby, the quality? Flawless.
