Extremely well executed interior for this restaurant, lots of old striped and varnished pale wood, it has a multi level multi room layout. Pump clip decor clashes somewhat with the brass and mirror tastefulness. There's a bit of a salt and vinegar smell about the place, which clashed with the east European barman’s opinion of himself. Anyhoo, we have five pulls, four on stream with smaller local brewery stuff, and drinkable enough. Not a must do when in Nottingham, but pleasant enough.

Recently re opened the cock and hoop a one of the bars for the hotel it is joined to but unlike the others this is in the style of a pub with its own pub sign and frontage and open to the public. Once inside it has been extensively modernised in a really nice way but Keeping nice pub elements di h as high arm chairs and a mock open fire. This is a really nice place to sit and relax, it is extremely warm and comfortable.

On the bar are five real ales that are kept in very good condition. Harvest pale and doombar are regulars with the other three rotating. On my visit Exmoore good, Robinsons trooper and Titanic plumb porter were available and the plumb porter was superb. Because it is intertwined with the hotel the prices are very steep for Nottingham as all ales are £3.80. they have left the old home Brewer etched glass windows in as a homage and this is a very nice touch.
Although very expensive the cock and hoop is worth the visit as it is very ezxclusive as very few propel are aware of it down a quieter side street but those who do keep returning g as it is a fantastic place to sit and relax, one of the most relaxing and comfortable pints I have had in a while. If you can stomach £3.80 this is a must visit, one of my new favourites.

** On a more recent visit hey have started to be a bit more flexible with their prices, charging less for the weaker beers and more for the stronger ones (all still in the high end bracket though) My plum porter was £3.90 which is getting a bit silly really but I suppose on their special priced says its quite reasonable.

This Victorian gastro pub is part of the Lace Market Hotel next door. Consists of a small front bar and a lower lounge. On handpump three from Blue Monkey and a stout from Flipside. Blue Monkey was well kept, staff were friendly. Next visit will get a bite to eat as food looked tempting.
