It was a good walk out of town to this large suburban Marston's pub, situated next to a shopping arcade and large car park in a new residential area. It's primarily aimed at diners and families. But there was a good smattering of drinkers on my mid-afternoon Monday visit.

Just 2 staff were managing this establishment. But the guy who greeted and served me was very efficient and happy to chat to his customers.

The ale range was limited. Marston's Pedigree is the regular beer. The guest was Young's Special. But I was at least happy to find a real cider. Weston's Rosie's Pig Cloudy Rhubarb cider was the only real cider I found in the town and went down nicely, before the long wet walk back into town.

An out-of-town Marstons megapub /eatery which to be fair is quite well done and the interior is at least divided into some discrete areas. Decorated in a Silver, blacks and reds. Nice garden out front. A décor item we were taken with was the flatscreen disguised as an old 50’s bakelite. As expected, there are plenty of children in situ, so not one for peace and quiet. Three ales on; Marstons Pedigree, Thwaites Lancaster Bomber and Thwaites Fusion. My Bomber tasted a little tinny but was ostensibly fine and the barman offered tasters to my companion who was being indecisive – his beer was decent. It's fairly a good example of what it is.

As Arky says below, a NuMarstons build on a semi-retail estate (there are a parade of shops to the building's left and a shared car park) very much like the other estate pubs in this expanding market town. A red brick build, it had a pleasant outdoor seating area with a covered section, foliage hiding it from the nearby road and a kiddies' play area. Internally it's roughly staple-shaped, with the area to the right more geared for dining, but the area to the left still bedecked with menu-laden tables. Ales from the Marston's camp as you'd expect including Pedigree, Wychwood Hobgoblin and Bank's Blazin' Fury which has a hint of ginger in and was a decent drop for £1.70 for a half, which is a theme with the estate pubs (perhaps to stop people heading into the centre). Again, no great shakes, but well-kept beer is well-kept beer, so the sound of one-and-a-half hands clapping for this one.
