This is the closest half decent place to Shrub Hill station. It was busy on our Sunday evening visit and whilst I don't recall much, as I'd had a few by this time, I do recall a ground floor bar with stairs leading up to toilets and further seating alongside steps leading down to what I assume was a cellar bar.

Just 3 real ales were on - Salopian Oracle, Holden's Golden Glow & Millstone Tiger Rut. There also appeared to be a number of craft beers and 2 real ciders from Orchard Pig - Navel Gazer & Ginger & Chilli.

Still rocking the bordello alehouse vibe and fair play to them as the place seems to be doing well. A good selection available over the four pumps and my Cloudwater Mild was pretty good, NBSS 3.5. Keep it tight, keep the beer moving. Sensible strategy.

Unlike my previous visit a couple of years back I popped in during the evening this time and the pub really did come alive somewhat, with the tart’s boudoir feel actually working rather well - dark but atmospheric as opposed to glum and dingy. Seems to be fully promoting itself as a craft beer bar these days and the line-up was very impressive if you crave hops: Dark Star American Pale, Castle Rock Harvest Pale and Magic Rock Ringmaster (which came out extremely well) and Buxton Moor Top (ditto). Two Hogans ciders and a number of high-end craft keg beers (Kernel, Magic Rock) also on. They’ve even managed to source the obligatory hipster barman to round off the look. As mentioned below, this is geared towards the younger end of the market but there seemed to be a fair mix of punters in situ and it was very busy. Not bad at all and I’d be prioritising this one over some other Worcester stalwarts next time I’m in the city. It certainly knocks some of the London craft beer bars I’ve done recently into a cocked hat. Rated 8

It doesn’t much look like a pub from the outside and doesn’t really look much like one inside either. The interior is part tart’s boudoir, part gentleman’s club - dark, leather and crushed velveteen seats, candles and umpteen fairly lights. Apparently once a vinegar manager’s house, so they’d best be careful not to allow ale-types to have an excuse to start making the obvious jokes. Four were on (Holdens, Butcombe, Mad Goose and one called Californiacation from who-knows-where) along with two Westons ciders, oddly situated just under the bar counter. I was happy with mine and had another. There are also some decent bottled beers to be had as well as some higher-end keg products. Staff were young and friendly. The trendy music selection was perhaps a little too trendy for me. Worth a visit for the novelty value and the beer should keep you interested once that’s worn off. Rated 6

More bar than pub, with six handpumps and four beers on during my visit, from Enville, Mallisons, New Bristol and Siren, I had Suspended in Rainbow from the latter which was perfectly fine on a day typified by average beer in the main.
