An impressive exterior next to the bridge over the Severn, however the paint job should have warned me what was within. Probably once a nice riverside pub it has been ruthlessly modernised inside with a grey paint job, shiny tiles, very shiny tiles on the counter face, dodgy badly laid mock Victorian ones on the floor by the counter and industrial carpet. Open plan naturally but distinct areas, sofas and low kitchen table left of the door, pool table to the right, tall tables with screen and machines in the middle, then lower tables and chairs at the back in what is probably a modern extension, hard to tell from inside. There’s an outside area but rather than Severnside views it’s a car park, funfair and to be fair an historic canal basin, you can see. Beerwise nothing special, it’s labelled Davenports on the outside but they closed years ago so the Davenport’s beers inside are probably badge engineering from Molson Coors or whoever owns the brand these days. Three hand pumps with Doombar and Davenports IPA which wasn’t a bad pint, two kegs on the two horseshoes were Davenports as well the rest being the expected mix from Molson Coors.

A large open plan pub with the main bar area down the left hand side as you enter. The bar area is reminiscent of a JDW with an oak counter top, a metallic tiled clad bar front and hanging glass racks over the counter. There were also a few original booths to be found plus a good few customers calling in for a bite to eat. The decor was modern and the pub also featured a pool table to the front of the main lounge area. Three handpumps Doombar, Davenports Original and Gold. We went for the Davenports at £3.15 a pint and it tasted pretty good.

Ian Mapp left this review about Ye Olde Crown Inn

No longer a Wetherspoons - sold to Hawthorns Leisure in May 2016.

After a month - it remains the same. Same tired decor, punters.

On a positive note, they still have a wide selection of real ales (8ish) and my Salopian Gold at £2.20 was both superb and a steal at the price.
