Rather unremarkable pub, was expecting better from outside. Despite the split levels its modern and characterless, small & long with an outside space at the back

I forgot how (relatively) small and anonymous it is in here. A nice quiet laid-back atmosphere early Friday afternoon with a few locals giving it some friendly banter. Three guest ales, maybe fewer than I’d expected…but in this case less is most definitely more, as my Loddon Citra Quad was excellent (NBSS 4). Enjoyable pizza scoffed as well, with friendly service throughout the staff. A good visit. 6.5

A very tarted-up JDW, looks like something from an IKEA ad - a long way from the faux-Victoriana of most of their outlets. Very small as well compared to other ‘Spoons. The layout of the pub isn't too good; it's essentially one long corridor most of the way along and gets quite cramped because too many chairs and tables have been levered into place – not comfy. The lighting’s also very dim, I could've fallen asleep in the downstairs area a few times. There is also a heated patio through the back doors. Beer-wise, the range available is usually fairly good and the quality is usually pretty decent. Worth a visit when quiet if you like your ale but I wouldn't want to spend too long in here. Better than the offering (Bakers) next door though. Rated 6

Canteen style spoons with a unremarkable beer lineup, I wouldn't bother again.
