David the long-standing cellar guru and shift manager left a while back and ale quality is now a bit more variable than previous.

August 2015
Compact open-plan Wetherspoons (from the shades-of-brown catalogue) that has a slightly elevated air due to its location. The ale here is usually in pretty good nick and it's worth popping in even if it's not exactly an all-round pub experience. Has a house beer (Cadogan's Gold) brewed by Loddon - re-badged Ferrymans Gold. Sometimes the ale is on stillage out the back, so be prepared for a non-agitated beer (staff generally point this out before you've committed the order). Staff turnover is fairly low, which helps service levels no end as most of them know how the pub works. Worth taking in, as its regular GBG entries attest...

This is a smaller Spoons consisting of a square room with the bar on th right and fairly typical furnishings. It was doing a good trade when I turned up around midday on a Saturday. It's a single storey building so they haven't managed to find anywhere up or down several flights of stairs to place the toilets but I bet they tried. The standard guest ale price here is £2.65 making it more expensive than any of my regular JDW haunts in London.
There are only eight hand pumps but there was a full selection, the house Cadogan Gold, the JDW Trio Of Doom, Caledonian Ithaca Nut Brown, Loddon's Hullabaloo, Cairngorm Black Gold and Triple fff Apache Rose Peacock. I went for the Hullabaloo (£2.65) which was in excellent nick.
I thought this was a good Spoons and found it a lot pleasanter than any of the three in the middle of Reading.

A small box like Wetherspoon's which is just a room with a load of tables and chairs in it.The staff were friendly enough but the beer was nothing to write home about.
