Is this a micropub or just a small bar? I would say the latter as it has a well used pool table and TV's showing sport. No matter as it was very busy on our Sunday afternoon visit. Hardly a seat to be found at about 5 p.m. they were all getting a few in before the 7 p.m. closing time. Four handpumps on the go, we tried two of them and they were both in good nick. We would have liked to call in again, but they're closed on Monday and Tuesday as well. So definitely micropub hours than

Another GBG 2022 Micro Pub.
Four cask and a back wall dominated by Keg, for which I chose a Deya Steady Rolling Man. A bit quieter than the others in town and I was all micro'd out to fully appreciate this variation on a common theme in Matlock.

My two most recent visits have been since I started coming here to watch Matlock Town - their ground is less than five minutes walk away, across the river. I was here before the match the Saturday before Christmas, when it was pretty busy and we were lucky to get a recently vacated table, which the helpful staff member wiped down so that our beer glasses wouldn't be contaminated with Omicron. And today I was here to get warm between the end of the match (16:57) and the departure of my bus (17:24): I reckoned a half would be about right, especially as there are no toilets on buses. The four hand pumps had beers from Abbeydale, Derby, Ossett and Bentley Brook. The latter was a new brewery to me, so I went for their Down Dale Pale 4.2%. First surprise: it was happy hour (early Saturday evening?) and my half was just £1; second surprise, this was a well made beer in astonishingly good condition - I'd have had no trouble sinking a pint in the time allowed (though the possible consequences don't bear thinking about). I'm planning a few more games before the end of the season, though the football is of a pretty poor standard; making this my regular match-day pub will help to compensate for that.
