This is a Greene King pub that had on four of their ales IPA (obviously), Abbot, London Glory - and I think the fourth was OSH. I didn't look at a menu.

There's distressed aquamarine painted, modern looking, panelling on the walls, mainly bare-boarded flooring except for a modern design tiled area surrounding the bar counter, and exposed brickwork behind the servery. You get the picture. There's a large outside seating area to the left of the building, which was of course a big plus last year.

I've walked this pub numerous times in the past, and I'll probably walk past it numeous times in the future.

The George is owned by Greene King and the large single open planned L-shaped bar has definitely undergone the refurbishment treatment by the GK internal designers team and whereas it may be a bright and comfortable interior with tiled and wooden floors, plenty of light wood, the usual farrow and ball soft colour scheme, lighting and gas coal-effect fires, and copious soft furnishings strewn about the mix of sofas and standard tables its identical to every other pubco’s view of what a food led gastro interior should look like and therefore nothing you haven’t seen a 100 times before.
Although clearly food led the bar area is more set up for drinking, and I didn’t have a problem with this area having a couple of flat screens for the sport and with the current cricket world cup on it actually enhanced the appeal of this pub in my opinion. Then the rest of the pub was mainly set up for dining and then there is a small patio to the rear, which is largely for the benegit of the smokers from what I could see.
Four hand pumps on the bar and alongside the usual IPA and Abbott were two badged as Full Sail and Rhode Island, which I hadn’t seen before and were not going to trust in a GK pub. And then there were the usual shiny draft taps with all the usual suspects, but at least containing a couple of brews from Camden and Meantime.
I found it all a bit bland and typical GK eatery for me and will also concur that the Garden Gate is a better option. But this is not a bad pub and it does provide an alternative for the hardworking staff of the Royal Free, especially as NHS staff get a 10% discount here I believe.

The pub dates from 1666 but was rebuilt around the 1920s/’30 by John T. Quilter for Wm Younger’s in his trademark brewers’ Tudor. Recently refurbished - yet again - and now taken a notch or two more upmarket with the addition of edible food, though not outwardly gastro. Overly bright inside and unsurprisingly, pale wood abounds. The stinky carpet has gone as has the riff-raff that once spilled out onto the pavement. Now considerably nicer than before, though the presence of glowing TVs is an unwanted distraction.
Ales: Greene King’s IPA, Hogsback Brewery’s Surrey Nirvana, Wimbledon Brewery’s Copper Leaf and Twickenham Brewery’s Grandstand, price not recorded and in decent nick.
This pub is worth a visit if in the locale but would not have made my bucket list; the Roebuck and Garden Gate are close at hand.
