Seriously attractive back street Fullers (since 2013) pub. Over-modernised inside but has kept some more traditional elements including an impressive curved bar counter, gantry and five piece mirrored ‘Fuller Smith and Turner’ signage above the bar. Otherwise it’s whites, greys and some light coloured panelling which I wasn’t convinced was all that aged but then again I’m not Hugh Scully. Six pumps with some doubling up leaving four ales on; Pride, Hophead, Butcombe Rare Breed and Fullers Rocky Red, the latter of which set me back a scarcely credible £2.55 for a half but was at least in good nick (NBSS 3). Not bad for this part of town, wouldn’t have an issue popping back. 6.5

This pub has been recently refurbished by Fuller’s, and now creditably revealing the old brown brewery tiling on the exterior. Inside there’s a bare-boarded room at the front (with those grooved boards we are starting to see more often now). At the back down a couple of steps is some more traditional seating. A black/white/grey splash area surrounds the counter, and there are some remnants of an inter-war refit, including some wood panelling. There is also some ouside seating at the front.

When I was in at around 2.00 PM on a Wednesday there were a couple of noisy groups in, possibly at the tail end of their lunchtime get together. But that’s what you often get in Central London pubs. On the plus side, they had four ales on, in Fuller’s London Pride and Day Dreamer; and Darkstar Hophead and Revelation (£2.55 a half). They clearly do food at lunchtimes, but I didn’t see a menu.

As far as I can tell Fuller’s have done a reasonable job on this pub. It certainly looks better from the outside than it did in its former incarnation, painted a sort of eggshell green colour. It's worth a visit, but by no means a destination pub.

A first in here the other afternoon to a pub which dates back to at least the late 18th century and judging by the architecture, I wouldn't be surprised if the structure dates from that period.
The first thing you notice on approaching is the newly exposed brown glazed tiles and wonderful Meux's tiled panels - well done you! The interior though is new oak field panelled 'olde' style with some bare brick, dating from what must have been a comprehensive renovation undertaken this year which gives something of a 'gastro' feel with venison casserole and lemon posset on the menu. Unsurprisingly, clients would appear to be far less likely to be drawn from locals than previously, with some American media types in on our afternoon visit.
Ales: the usual Fuller's line-up with Darkstar's Hophead, price forgotten but on very good form.
This seems to be a perfectly decent pub but I don't know how the competition fares as I've only visited three other hostelries in south-east London!
