Worth a visit for the surroundings if not the beer. Fuller's Ales (in Birmingham - really!) with Beowulf as the guest ale. Opposite St Philips Cathedral in the commercial area of the city centre. On street, metered, parking. 5 minutes walk from Snow Hill Station, slightly more from New St. Gets crowded despite the prices. One star for the building, one star for the Beowulf, minus one star for the Fullers, nothing for the food.

Originally a library then a bank and now a large pub serving largely the business district of the city centre. With large rooms the main one with a glass domed ceiling and island bar together with its own theatre! the Old Joint Stock is a comfortable and refined pub in which to spend a hour or two. Of course you do have to pay for the surroundings and a pint comes in at £3.30 whilst even the most simple snack will cost you (Fish Finger bap £5.95)
