This is a decent, town centre Wetherspoons with a handy location close to the seafront and the Eric Morecambe statue, from whom the pub takes its name. The premises feels like a shop conversion thanks to its position on a pedestrianised retail street that looks like it has seen better days. You enter through a small porch to a carpeted bar area with the servery along the rear wall. Half height modern wood panelling can be found throughout, with the upper sections painted in a neutral colour scheme and decorated with lots of colourful paintings. Plenty of regular tables and chairs fill the space in the front part of the pub, tucked between various support pillars and sections of wall, with floor to ceiling windows along the front wall, whilst the usual high tables and stools appear as you get closer to the bar. The servery has a wooden counter front which curves nicely at one end, and a rather plain mirrored bar back. There's a mural at one end of the bar depicting the eponymous comedian, and a few large local photos dot the walls throughout the pub too. Stairs to the front left lead you up to a mezzanine seating space, which semed to offer a fair bit of overspill seating, although I didnt explore properly.
I arrived to find that customers had formed a lengthy queue through the centre of the pub, which I reluctantly had to join, and which never disappeared the whole time I was here. Once I reached the bar, I could see there were three regular 'Spoons ales and four guests on the handpulls. I tried the Hawkshead Windermere Pale at a great value £2.55 a pint. The barman was very nice and explained that this beer had been pouring very lively, so he would pour half, serve someone else and then pour the rest, which I was pleased to find resulted in a good quality pint. The good service didnt seem to extend far beyond the bar though, with many tables left uncleared, which made it hard to find a good spot to sit at.
This is a bit of a bog-standard 'Spoons with a vaguely promising interior and some well-kept ale doing just about enough to save it from ignominy. The centre of Morecambe seems to be a bit of a tough place to find a decent pint, so it's worth knowing about even if it's only because there's not much competition elsewhere.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Eric Bartholomew (JD Wetherspoon)

Routine but fairly spacious 'spoons, no doubt required at the height of a normal holiday season but currently providing the maximum of social distancing. Since it extends back some way from the front windows, the light furniture and decor really help. Reasonable selection of eight real ales from the two banks of five handpumps, including a pair from Oakham, Kirkby Lonsdale Jubilee and Bowland Hen Harrier (£1.89).

not much doing on the ale front this morning but I have a soft spot for this Spoons. it's a down to earth one with more atmosphere than some. a couple of pensioners scrapping outside at 11 in the morning, stay classy Morecambe...
