a big, busy, comfortable suburban pub. slight focus on food but not too much. Hopgoblin only real ale at £3.90 a pint. dreary Royston Vasey atmosphere. not really very interesting and not worth a visit if you're in Kendal - just head for town if you're coming in on the train

The last pub, as it turned out, of my recent Keswick crawl, and unluckily not a very memorable finish. The beer - appropriately enough Jennings Cumberland Ale - was spot on and very enjoyable, but the atmosphere was dreary in the extreme. OK, it was late on a Tuesday evening with no more than two other customers, but the person serving had no interest in what she was doing, coming out from behind the bar and reading a newspaper between customers. Add to that the extremely loud pop music and you can imagine I was not very likely to either linger over my beer or think about ordering another.
