This is still a two room pub. I glanced in the one on the left, which had light pine coloured tables and chairs, its own bar counter at the back, and one mournful looking bloke sitting there - perhaps it was Manoso and nobody wanted to sing along with him. I sat in the other bar on the right, which had a small group of blokes chatting at the bar, another bloke who looked a bit down on his luck (perhaps he said the same about me!), and a re-affirmation of the Portuguese connection with a couple at another table speaking Portuguese. There's a pool table and a dartboard in this room, plus a bit of banquette seating and some normal tables and chairs, and of course a TV on the wall that seemed to be tuned to some music channel. Nothing very special here.

There's no real ale either, just John Smith's and assorted fizzy stuff, but they did have on a Portuguese lager called Sagres, of which I had a half (£1.70). It tasted like all other lagers, but maybe there was something special about it and my palate just isn't attuned the subtleties of lager drinking. But more probably they all taste much the same. There were little mini chalkboards on the tables, advertising a full English breakfast all day on one side, and "there lasagne" on the other.

This is a very basic and characterless post war estate pub. I'm glad it's still here for the regulars and Portuguese expats to enjoy, but I can't see me making a return visit.

There are two bars to this pub, the one on the right is the English bar, it has a pool table and dart board. Also it shows sport on a large tv. The bar on the left is a Portugese bar. It also has a tv and shows continental sport, and Portugese programmes. The English bar has had a bit of a refurb. The ceiling is now painted white. I prefer the other bar, as I don't understand the language at all so I don't have to listen to people who cannot string a sentance together without using at least 3 swear words. The Portugese bar is now undergoing a refurb, I hope they don't change it too much. My rating is biased towards my favourite bar. Update, the Portugese bar is now only open Fri - Sun.
