A reasonable country style pub, fairly traditional inside and out, with an equal nod toward food and drink. Four handpumps with the regular Doom Bar and Dartmoor Jail Ale on with a guest of Otter Bitter, in decent shape, the remaining pump was vacant. This pub obviously appeals to locals being a little off the beaten track but a nice spot all the same.

This pub is ideally located close to the woods and beautiful walks, hence it is dog-friendly. In 2012 Handrian and Jill who did an excellent job preserving this quaint historic place, moved to Wales; only John stayed on and his mom Nicky bought the pub. The new landlady is very friendly, chatty and hasn't so far done too much damage to this historic spot. She has emproved the garden and has a friendly, cute litte pub dog with whom I fell in love almost immediately. Whilst Hadrian supported local micro-breweries, Nicky insits on Jail Ale and Doom Bar, all very well kept. Jill's delicious home-made pies have been replaced by a more variegated menu. As the landlady has brought along a French chef I would go for the special board: there are specialities from France as well as Britain's favourites with a French touch to it, all freshly cooked to order. Do not miss the roasts dinners on Sundays! Prices might be higher than at the Wheatsheaf, but do keep in mind that the Plought could compete with any first class French restaurant.Punters who only fancy a pint are welcome at any time and only the tables towards the garden are reserved fro diners; there is always a cheerful crowd standing aroung the bar, drinking ale and having a chat. The locals are very friendly and Nicky will introduce you to everyone. Thus, if you are new to the area this is the right place to meet the locals and socialize.

One-roomed semi-rural local on edge of common. Quite nicely done out, with various artefacts round the walls, although not sure what the bare brick round the bar adds. Possibly a slight over-emphasis on food, which looked ok and claims to be home made; especially noted for pies. Quite a good range of beers for a smaller pub though, including national brands and rarer locals.
